In order to have a NOMAD account created the following prerequisite information must be available:
- Domain account - GSFC active directory account
- UUPIC - the Agency universal user identity code
- AUID - the Agency user identification
- GAL Key - the locator for the global address list
- x.500 Unique ID - the Center identity code, starts with GS
- Full name - legal name formatted as first name, middle initial, last name
- OneNASA address - Agency assigned email address ending in @nasa.gov
- Employer
- Required date
If any of the prerequisite information is not available or not found contact the
Code 700 Support Center. They will be able to help locate the information or explain what is needed to generate the information.
A NOMAD account can be requested by an ODIN Representative using GOST. A link to the list of ODIN Representatives can be found on the home page under links (bottom left of home page). The ODIN Representative will need the prerequisite information as well as a charge code for the NOMAD account seat if the person does not have an ODIN seat.

FAQs: New Account Process |
|
How do I confirm that the identify verification process is complete so that I can begin collecting data for the NOMAD account request?
Answer:
When the Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process is completed the employee's identification will appear in the Enterprise Directory.
To access this information use: https://webdir.nasa.gov/search/ldap. The Enterprise
Directory is updated each workday.
New employee records are also updated from the Enterprise Directory to the GSFC LISTS directory each workday (with the exception of
foreign nationals who require special processing). The X.500 directory is populated (twice a week) from the LISTS data.
Finally once the X.500 directory is populated with an email placeholder then the OneNASA email address can be generated
(normally 1 workday after X.500 is updated with the email placeholder address). Check for population of the OneNASA address
on the OneNASA website at: https://onenasa.ndc.nasa.gov. At this point all required data should be available.

How does an individual take IT Security Training if he or she does not have a SATERN account?
Answer:
The Learning Center has computer based IT Security Training. Persons can go to the Learning Center to take that training. A portable CD version of IT Security Training is being created. No details about this training are currently available. When information is available on how to obtain access to alternative offline means to complete this training, details will be posted to the GSFC NOMAD web site.

If every new employee needs a placeholder email address to allow OneNASA email account to generate, why can't the placeholder be generated automatically?
Answer:
Not every new employee at GSFC receives an email account. Generating this placeholder automatically may cause excessive creation of temporary email accounts that would then need to be removed. It also would include such non-operational addresses in mailing lists like gsfc_all that is not desirable. There are plans to adopt a new process soon, in collaboration with the Agency OneNASA support group that will eliminate the need for a placeholder address.

Do all summer interns need to have a NOMAD account? Can summer interns use their university accounts instead?
Answer:
The official Agency guidance is that employees using a desktop computer with an assigned NASA IP address should use the NOMAD service. Summer interns could be granted access to the Guest CNE network and allowed to check their school email accounts rather than create a NOMAD account. The employee's support organization should carefully consider the type of email content that would be sent to the non-NASA email account to determine whether it would be best to maintain control of that content by hosting it explicitly on NASA provided systems. Use of commercial email accounts like AOL, Yahoo, etc. should NOT be used.

Why does it take Code 700 five days to do what seems to be a relatively simple process, creating a NOMAD email account?
Answer:
Code 700 does not control the creation of a NOMAD account. The generation of the pre-requisite data elements required to request a NOMAD account come from multiple sources controlled by several support people/groups throughout NASA including: the OneNASA team, the sponsor, the employee, the NCAD team (for the GSFC Active Directory account), the ODIN representative, the NOMAD help desk, and others. The NOMAD account administrators also contractually have two workdays to complete account creation requests once they are received by the support staff in Alabama.

|
Will an organization be charged a monthly fee for summer intern NOMAD accounts?
Answer:
Yes, in order to request the creation of a NOMAD account the sponsoring organization must provide a charge code for the monthly fee for NOMAD service. A subscription to an ODIN 'computer' seat or Account seat is required. If an ODIN Temp seat is subscribed an Account seat must also be subscribed since the Temp seat does not include NOMAD service as part of the standard bundled services.
